Here we are at the end of our 4th week of learning about Les's diagnosis. So much has happened in a short amount of time. My sister, Natalie and her kids, came to visit for a few days which brought lots of smiles from Les. He didn't make it outside on Friday. PT came during lunch and said they'd be back, but they never came, and Les slept/laid with his eyes closed a large portion of the day. Radiation takes less time now that they are only focusing on the mid spine. He seemed talkative while the grandkids visited and asked questions about what was going on in their lives.
I asked him if he wanted me to mention anything specific in the blog, and of course he answered no, nothing much. So I asked him if I should tell everyone to come and visit and stay well over an hour! His one word answer with a smile was, "Buzz."
We are hearing such wonderful stories and comments from old high school and college friends! He gave a big laugh when I mentioned an old friend referring to him as "Bloby". My sister and I had never heard that nickname and glad it was never used on us! Thanks for sharing your support with us.

Hi guys,
ReplyDeleteWe missed you last night at the Foundation dinner at SAC. It was good to see Wendy receive outstanding teacher - we can't believe she's retiring though! Our new pastor has arrived so lots of work this past week to get things ready. Hope to get into Omaha for a few minutes Sunday between church and marathon. If not, Chris has Tues. off so may run in then to say hello in person. Love and hugs til then,

Hi - Glad to hear that you got to see Natalie's kids. I noticed Carolyn had them at school and I could not believe how big they have gotten. Please know that we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers, and PLEASE let us know if there is anything at all we can do to help.
ReplyDeleteHugs, prayers, and lots of get well wishes, as always. . . . .
Rod, Cheryl, & Family
Dear Les, Carolyn, Natalie and Nikki,
ReplyDeleteYou are all in our thoughts and prayers here in Kearney. Nikki, you are doing a great job with this blog and we have been keeping up on Les's progress and status. My mom and dad send their best thoughts and prayers, too. My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, had a mastectomy and just got her port in for chemo starting in May sometime. We are walking the cancer walk right now, too. We don't know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future. Hang on to that....and each other.
Love from, Jolene (Walden) Berke and family
Dear Les and Carolyn, Just wanted to say "HI" and let you know we miss you around here. So glad that your Grandchildren brought smiles to
ReplyDeleteyour face and you were checking them out. We missed you at the Foundation dinner last night.
We will include you in our prayers tomorrow at
church. Love Ya Emmet and Marilyn
Today was another good day for rest and relaxation, Cold and Rainy. Can't complain, we need the rain. Hope you enjoyed your soggy day!
ReplyDeleteLes,
ReplyDeleteGlad your radiation treatments are completed and you're nearing the end of these chemo sessions!
Understand you'll be heading to Ashland so that should be a nice change and allow you to be closer to home, friends and family.
We were visiting friends in Estes Park yesterday and they'd just received an email from his mother who was in Beatrice for a...get this...Johnny Ray Gomez show!!! Talk about some long ago memories of the Hotel in Jansen and some late night partying in Johnny's "deluxe suite" at the Mary Etta Hotel in Fairbury!
Looking forward to seeing you when we come back to the big red state in early June...give our best to Carolyn & continue to thank Nikki for the updates on your good progress!
