Enjoying the weather...

He did it! He made it outside to enjoy the smell of the tulips in the air (and an idling loading van in the area)! :(
Mom, Dad, and Paul W. spent about 20 minutes outside and it sounds like it was good for him. With all the therapy he's been getting, Les is almost able to move himself from the bed to a chair without much help. When I asked what I could say about his outing today, he said, "It was nice." Yes, that's about as good as it gets.

Tomorrow will be his last radiation treatment on his head/neck. We think there will be 7 more on his mid spine after that. So, he will probably be at Bergan until the first part of May. A doctor asked him how the radiation was going, and today he said, "I think it is going to help. I'm hopeful." He also told the doc he was "pretty healthy". We laughed when he told us his frustration with the oncology social workers always wanting him to share how he is feeling emotionally. (He even imitated their voices!) It was good to see him express some of that emotion in his own way. Thanks for checking in... we appreciate you!

  1. Have been keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Glad you got outside for a while today. It was a great day. I was out too, came in with a nagging sinus headache. Too much pollen in the air. Please let me know if there's anything I can do. Sounds as if you have a lot of great helpers. Belated B-Day and Anniversary wishes to you.

  3. Hello again from the Lanes. It sounds GREAT that you are moving some by yourself. I know from my knee surgeries that Therapy can be rough but hang in there and do what they say. It's wonderful what they can do.
Ruth pitched pennies this morning and got some of them in the dish. She is amazing. She also got her hair cut this morning and it really looks nice.
I check your updates each night before I go to bed. All of you are still in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. Les,

Appreciate the daily updates. I check everyday to monitor your progress.

I have been busy helping to care for Ryker, our grandson who was born on your Anniversary and Carolyn's birthday. He was 2 1/2 wks. premature but is doing fine. Weighed 7 lb 9 oz.

You are so fortunate to have such a devoted family. Keep improving.

  6. Les,
So glad to hear you got outside and you were able to enjoy the Spring weather that has finally come. Pinto Road continues to see the 30 count herd of turkeys usually on a daily basis. Of course the rabbits are multiplying and have come out of the woodwork, they scurry across the newly graveled roads. Mark is working on the garden, and has much of the spring things planted and is anxiously awaiting the fruits of his labor. Softball and baseball are beginning and kids once again fill the practice fields.
Mark and I are keeping you and Carolyn in our prayers daily and await your smiling face on Pinto Road.

    God be with you.

  7. Les, Carolyn -

Lots of people pulling for you here; just wanted to add a couple more voices to the chorus. Looking forward to the day when we can all take our places around a card table again.

  11. Hi Les,

Glad to hear the snow has retreated and your strength partially returned so that you could go ourside - how great a gift on your cart path to recovery. Thanks to everyone for the daily updates. Great to see the pictures of you, Carolyn and the girls - looked to be wonderful time. We are starting to tear out the Kitchen at our Austin house. Is fun (almost) as Beth is acting as the General Contractor and Boss of Ed (what's new). Keep up your recovery and stay with you rehab drills. Thanks again for our recent time together in Palm Springs.

    Love, ED & Beth
